What About the Kids? Advances in Protecting the Rights of Children

Event Overview

Children are precious, yet our juvenile justice and child welfare systems are not currently protecting children and their futures in a way that matches our values. Join us as we learn how foster children in a number of states do not have the right to legal counsel while their abusive parents do, and what can be done about it. We’ll discuss how vulnerable kids are set up to fail through our juvenile justice system, and what interventions can change that. We will also explore how these two systems, child welfare and juvenile justice, interact in a way that do not serve the most vulnerable children. Our experts are on the front lines of these fights, with direct experience and knowledge of these systems.
