Americans are extremely generous—nearly twice as generous as most comparable societies. We give in good times and in bad. And, just as each American is unique, so are the causes we support. There is spirit in our mutual assistance—a sense that we are accountable to ourselves and to each other, that individuals and communities can solve problems rather than waiting passively for others to rescue us. The 2012 Annual Meeting of The Philanthropy Roundtable offered principled, practical lessons on how your generosity can make the greatest impact.
