Joe Louis Barrow Jr.
CEO, First Tee
Joe Louis Barrow Jr. is CEO of the First Tee, a positive youth development organization that introduces the game of golf and its values to young people. Since its inception in 1997, the First Tee has impacted more than 4.75 million young people in 50 states and 6 international locations. Prior to joining the First Tee, Mr. Barrow was president and CEO of Izzo Systems, a golf products firm. He previously served as director of special projects and senior advisor to Ronald H. Brown, chairman of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C. Mr. Barrow first came to Washington as a participant in the Presidential Executive Exchange Program. He then spent three years at the Department of Energy as a director in the Office of Commercialization, Conservation and Solar Energy. Mr. Barrow received the Gold Tee from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association in 2010 and was inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame in March 2011. He is currently a board member of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, the American Junior Golf Association, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and the National Golf Foundation. He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Denver and an honorary doctorate from Georgetown College.
