Meg Whitman
Former president and CEO, eBay
Meg Whitman was president and CEO of eBay for 10 years. Under her leadership, eBay grew from 30 employees and roughly $4 million in annual revenue to more than 15,000 employees and $7.7 billion in annual revenue. Ms. Whitman is credited with helping revolutionize the way goods are bought, sold, and paid for online, as well as contributing to the creation of an online economy that has powered the entrepreneurial dreams of millions of people. Before joining eBay, Ms. Whitman was general manager of Hasbro’s pre-school division, responsible for global management and marketing of well-known brands like Playskool and Mr. Potato Head. She has also been an executive at Florists Transworld Delivery, Stride-Rite, and the Walt Disney Company. Earlier in her career, she worked at Bain and Company and Procter & Gamble. Ms. Whitman has been ranked several times by Time, Fortune, and BusinessWeek as one of the world’s most successful business managers. In 2010, she was the Republican nominee for Governor of California, focusing on job creation, K–12 education, and the reinvigoration of the Golden State’s business climate. Ms. Whitman is a board member of Hewlett-Packard, Procter & Gamble, and Zipcar, as well as a strategic advisor at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where she coaches entrepreneurs and evaluates digital investments. She serves on the boards of Teach For America, Summit Public Schools, the Nature Conservancy, and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. Ms. Whitman received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and her MBA from Harvard Business School.
