The $350 million Turner Foundation, brainchild of cable mogul Ted Turner, has hired Michael Finley as its new president. Finley comes to the foundation after 32 years with the National Park Service, most recently as superintendent of Yellowstone National Park.
Marchita Stanton is now director of organization development and training at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has added three new trustees: advertising executive Wendy Hagen, former Johnson & Johnson executive Edward J. Hartnett, and Robert Wood Johnson IV, CEO of the Johnson Company and grandson of the Johnson Foundation’s founder.
Nancy McCann has been elected to serve as president and treasurer of the John P. Murphy Foundation, filling the vacancy created by the death of longtime foundation president Herbert E. Strawbridge. Allan J. Zambie becomes executive vice president and secretary. McCann also joins the board of the Kulas Foundation as president, where Zambie will serve as vice president and secretary and Richard W. Pogue becomes senior adviser.
The Cincinnati-based KnowledgeWorks Foundation announces that Richard W. Riley will join its board of trustees. From 1993 through 2000, Riley served as the U.S. Secretary of Education under President Bill Clinton. KnowledgeWorks is active in school facilities planning and college access issues in Ohio.
Vatsala Kapur Pathy has joined the CDC Foundation as a program officer.
After 16 years, Dennis A. Collins will step down as president of the James Irvine Foundation early in 2002. The board will launch a search for Collins’s successor soon. Peter J. Taylor of Lehman Brothers in Los Angeles has joined the board of directors. Five new staff members have also come on board: Ann Clarke is the new director of grants administration; Hilda Hernández-Gravelle, the new program officer in higher education; Judy Belk, the new senior adviser; Charlotte March, the new executive assistant; and Katherine Aquino, the new program assistant.
Mark Cavanaugh is the Enterprise Foundation’s new treasurer and chief financial officer.
The Chicago Community Trust will undergo a restructuring that includes a series of promotions, title changes, and new positions. Among the hires and promotions: Anne Blanton, formerly assistant director, has been named executive vice president of administration; Marbet Cuthbert, formerly of the Management Association of Illinois, has been named director of human resources; Merri Ex, formerly director of external relations, has been named vice president of external relations; and Jennifer B. Jobrack, formerly communications officer, has been named director of communications.
Rosa A. Smith, formerly superintendent of the Columbus, Ohio, public school system, will assume the presidency of the Caroline and Sigmund Schott Foundation in June. She will also head the Schott Center for Public and Early Education.
Valerie Osowski and Donald F. Dahlstrom have received promotions in the communications office of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Osowski will become communications director and senior communications officer for special projects, while Dahlstrom will become senior communications officer for publications. Also, the department has expanded with three new hires: Mitchell W. Hurst, communications officer for new media; Andrea A. Brancato, editor and production manager; and Maggie I. Jaruzel, communications officer. Meanwhile, A. Marshall Acuff Jr. of Salomon Smith Barney has joined the investment committee of the foundation’s board of directors.
The William H. Donner Foundation has contracted with FIDES Philanthropic Management and Advisory Services, LLC, to administer the foundation. FIDES is managed by partners James V. Capua and William T. Alpert.
Jim Broadhurst has been elected chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Foundation, while president Alfred W. “Burr” Wishart has announced his resignation after 31 years in the post. The foundation has retained the executive search firm Kittleman & Associates to assist in finding a new president.
The United Way of the National Capital Area has named Norman O. Taylor as its chief executive officer. Taylor comes to UWNCA after five years of directing the Combined Federal Campaign, the nation’s largest workplace fund raiser.
The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation has hired Grenvell Foraker as vice president of administration.
Grantmakers in Health, an organization of trustees, foundation officers, and corporate giving representatives interested in health care issues, has elected a new slate of directors. Gary L. Yates, president and CEO of the California Wellness Foundation and current secretary, becomes chairman. Gloria Smith of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation will serve as vice chair, relinquishing her current position of member-at-large to the Public Welfare Foundation’s Terri Langston. Marguerite Johnson of the Rose Community Foundation becomes secretary. New members-at-large include Patrick Chaulk, senior associate for health at the Annie E. Casey Foundation; Eugene Cochrane Jr., vice president and director of the health care division at the Duke Endowment; and Reymundo Rodriguez, executive associate and program director of the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health.
