Program Director, Pathways to Opportunity

With these goals in mind, the organization’s Programs & Services team is a trusted source of knowledge to a growing movement of philanthropists who place the values of liberty, opportunity, and personal responsibility at the center of their charitable giving. We help our donor network articulate what they want to accomplish through their philanthropy and provide strategic and informative resources to help them achieve their goals. Our team has experience leading family foundations, developing and executing grantmaking strategies, conducting organizational due diligence, serving as sector thought leaders, and managing grants to achieve successful outcomes.

The Roundtable’s Programs & Services team will hire a Program Director focused on our Pathways to Opportunity portfolio. The portfolio oversees the areas of K-12 Education, Higher Education, and Workforce. The Program Director will be a critical hire for the team to help educate and inform our donor community in these programmatic domains. The Director will be vital in helping donors make the best investment decisions when allocating their philanthropic dollars. This role is an exciting opportunity to inform the work of multiple donors and foundations.

Job Summary: 

  • The Programs Director of the Pathways to Opportunity portfolio will be part of a dynamic team committed to supporting a robust movement of donors seeking excellence in grantmaking. The ideal candidate has knowledge (or relevant transferable experience) in grantmaking and philanthropy in K-12 Education, Higher Education, or Workforce. The ideal candidate will be a strategic self-starter passionate about the Roundtable’s mission and bring knowledge and expertise in domains relevant to the portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President of Programs & Services, the Program Director can work in-office in Washington, DC or virtually anywhere in the US.

Job Duties: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meet the needs of Roundtable donors looking for knowledge and support in making well-informed charitable investment decisions in the Pathways to Opportunity domain.
  • Establish relationships with experts, thought leaders, nonprofit executives, and philanthropic funders in the Pathways to Opportunity domain.
  • Develop and maintain relevant social sector market maps of Pathways to Opportunity programmatic areas; research and write due diligence assessments of relevant social impact organizations.
  • Grow the Roundtable’s knowledge base by engaging with social impact organizations to keep a pulse of their programming, stay abreast of current news and events, and monitor the latest research, activities, and trends in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.
  • Develop grant proposals and actively manage charitable investments.
  • Produce or oversee the commission of written content, research pieces, and analysis to help share examples of philanthropic excellence through various channels, including white papers, briefings, blogs, videos, webinars, interviews, and digital items for social media.
  • Develop content for large- and small-scale donor convenings.


  • At least three years of grantmaking or other social impact experience in one or more of these subject matter areas: K-12 education, higher education, or workforce.
  • Demonstrable track record of building trust quickly with internal and external stakeholders, including evidence of executive presence.
  • Demonstrable experience producing excellent written content and a developed ability to communicate information to those outside your field deftly.
  • Existing relationships with experts and leaders that can be leveraged to expand the Roundtable programming and network in the Pathways to Opportunity domain.
  • Versatility to be a self-starter who takes the initiative while being a highly collaborative, energetic, and supportive team member.
  • Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to complete high-quality projects, juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines with enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • High integrity and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Endorses and is motivated by the guiding principles, mission, and vision of the Roundtable.
  • Passionate about philanthropy and its role in strengthening a free society.
