Andrew Calkins is director of Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC). NGLC works to spur the development of “next gen learning” that is student-centered, personalized, competency-based, experiential, and tech-enabled. Mr. Calkins brings three decades of experience in education reform in leadership positions organizations including Scholastic, where he served as editor of Electronic Learning magazine; Recruiting New Teachers; Mass Insight Education and Research Institute; and the Stupski Foundation. He was the lead author of Mass Insight’s influential report, The Turnaround Challenge, which helped launch the nation’s focused efforts to turn around its most consistently under-performing schools. Mr. Calkins previously served on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee and on the board of trustees for the Waring School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and was a Henry Fellow at Pembroke College in the U.K.
