Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Vice President of Development is responsible for managing the Development team. The Vice President will be capable leader who can manage and grow the existing capacities of the current department while encouraging a strong and vibrant development culture and implementing new strategies to meet revenue goals year over year.

Specifically, the Vice President, in collaboration with the Senior Vice President, will work to align the Development team with the goal of growing the Roundtable’s annual base of support and attract new major individual donors.

The Vice President of Development will work from the Roundtable’s Washington, D.C. office or from a virtual office elsewhere in the country with regular travel to our nation’s capital.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute the fundraising strategy and lead the day-to-day operations of the development team consistent with that strategy
  • Collaborate with the Senior Vice President and President on top strategic donor interactions and moves management
  • Direct, mentor, and hire exceptional development talent
  • Collaborate with the Senior Vice President to expand efforts to identify, approach, and actively cultivate new donors who could become involved with the Roundtable, especially at the $25,000+ level
  • Propose and execute creative new tactics for the organization to further engage donors
  • Work closely with marketing and communications team to develop consistent messaging and collateral material used in serving members and in fundraising
  • Work closely with internal staff to improve Salesforce and other systems for fundraising needs
  • Work closely with the operations team to develop and oversee the development department’s budget, revenue targets, and the organization’s overall financials
  • Work closely with Events team to build and execute exceptional donor gatherings
  • Identify professional development opportunities and provide training, as necessary
  • Cultivate a positive work culture and productive relationships across the organization

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of development experience with exposure to several facets of fundraising including foundation fundraising, team management, major gifts cultivation, finance/accounting/budgeting, donor communications
  • Demonstrable track record of successfully cultivating and growing donor relationships (whether it be foundations or individual donors)
  • Strong, practiced leadership style that can promote a vibrant development culture and positively engage current team members while seeking new talent to grow the team and meet development needs
  • Experience constructing, articulating, and implementing annual strategic development plans
  • Experience working across teams to achieve organizational goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Versatility to be both a self-starter who takes initiative and a strong team member
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • High standard of honesty and able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Endorses and is motived by the guiding principles, mission and vision of the Roundtable
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferences

  • Work experience in philanthropy or strong knowledge of the nonprofit sector
  • Experience with Salesforce is preferred

Travel

Approximately 10% of time for Roundtable events and donor meetings. All travel will be domestic. Additional travel will be required for a Vice President working virtually.
