Philanthropic Freedom: The Engine That Powers Civil Society

Philanthropic Freedom: The Engine That Powers Civil Society

Thirty-five years ago, a group of devoted donors founded Philanthropy Roundtable to protect the essential principles of liberty, opportunity and personal responsibility that have made America a powerful engine of upward mobility and human progress for generations.

As threats to charitable giving grew, including attacks on donor intent and donor privacy, Philanthropy Roundtable quickly became the leading champion for protecting philanthropic freedom. The simple but powerful idea that people must be free to give how, when and where they choose.

Listen as President and CEO Christie Herrera and Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Claudia Cummings explore why this freedom is essential to a thriving civil society. They explain how protecting the right to give safeguards every American’s ability to support the causes and communities they care about. They add it also channels resources into efforts that create opportunity, improve lives and build a society where people from all backgrounds can flourish.

All Americans should be free to give to the causes they care about. To learn more about how the Roundtable protects the freedom to give, visit PhilanthropyRoundtable.org.
