WASHINGTON—Philanthropy Roundtable released the following statement on the brutal murder of conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk:
“Philanthropy Roundtable and our community are devastated by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, young children, family and the entire Turning Point USA team following today’s appalling attack at Utah Valley University.
“Advancing freedom and opportunity are values the Roundtable holds dear, and Charlie has been a champion of those values, introducing them to new audiences and inspiring the next generation of conservative leaders, especially on college campuses across the country. Many in our community have supported Charlie’s work and the conservative principles he stood for.
“We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and the targeting of anyone exercising their constitutional right to free speech and expression. A free society endures when its people can speak without fear, gather without threat and act with conscience. The right to express what we believe in and support the communities we care about is the bedrock upon which this great nation was built. Americans should feel safe to come together in the public square to share their values and ideas, and we call upon leaders nationwide to condemn the hate and violence that perpetrated this tragedy.
“We cannot look away. We must remain steadfast in standing up for what we believe is right and true in how we create a freer and more prosperous society for all. May Charlie Kirk rest in peace, and may his legacy live on.”
