Defense of Freedom Institute

Empowering low-income families with the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their children

The Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies, Inc. (DFI) is an independent, nonprofit institute focused on providing thoughtful, conservative solutions to the challenges presented by education, workforce, labor and employment issues.

Through a unique blend of policy and legal expertise, they fight to expand school and work opportunities for all Americans; to limit the power of federal agencies and government-sector unions; and to defend the civil and constitutional rights of all Americans in the classroom and workplace.

DFI works across key issue areas, including teacher union accountability, education freedom, workforce preparation and lifelong learning and civil and constitutional rights in the workplace and the classroom.

Founded by former Assistant Secretary for Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development at the U.S. Department of Education Jim Blew and Senior Counselor to the Secretary of Education Robert S. Eitel, DFI conducts its work under the guiding principle that all people are born free and created equal with inalienable rights, including the freedom of speech and religion, and that all people should have equal opportunity to choose their education, work and life.
