WASHINGTON — Philanthropy Roundtable is pleased to announce Helen and Charles “Chuck” Schwab as the recipients of the 2025 Simon-DeVos Prize for Philanthropic Leadership. For more than four decades, Helen and Chuck Schwab have had a significant and lasting impact on the lives of everyday Americans. Through their family foundation, the Schwabs drew early attention to the challenges of dyslexia and sparked a revolution in research, treatment and educational support for children and young adults facing those challenges, efforts that have dramatically improved the lives of generations of people with dyslexia. Their focus on the arts, education reform, financial literacy, poverty prevention, health and homelessness reflects their personal passion for improving the lives of others less fortunate than themselves.
In partnership with the DeVos Family Foundation, and with previous support from the William E. Simon Foundation, Philanthropy Roundtable presents the prize each year to living philanthropists who have shown exemplary leadership through charitable giving. The Schwabs will donate the accompanying $200,000 award to Tipping Point Community, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that finds, funds and strengthens promising poverty-fighting solutions in the Bay Area to ensure that everyone in the region has a place to call home, a strong start in life, a college degree and a well-paying job.
“Helen and Chuck’s generosity is rooted in their deep commitment to American values like personal responsibility, volunteerism and faith,” said Betsy and Dick DeVos. “They not only model generosity but also encourage and support others to do the same. By providing tools for building financial independence and security, their vision and entrepreneurship have empowered clients to become philanthropists themselves and engage in the spirit of giving. Our family has been honored to work alongside the Schwabs on various initiatives, and we are inspired by their efforts to expand the reach of charitable giving in ways that continue to strengthen communities and drive lasting impact.”
Since 1991, the Schwabs have managed their charitable work through the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, the Charles R. Schwab Foundation for Financial Freedom, and other personal giving.
“We have always believed that individuals who are successful in their life’s work should stretch more in their generosity. Communities and nonprofits need our leadership,” the Schwabs said.
As the 2025 Simon-DeVos Prize recipients, Helen and Chuck Schwab will be honored at Philanthropy Roundtable’s 2025 Annual Meeting.

Simon Foundation, to administer the annual Simon-DeVos Prize for Philanthropic Leadership.
